Taming Ban'thalos the Spirit Owl

Taming Ban'thalos proves to be very challenging because she spawns at Sanctuary of Malorne in the middle of quest hubs. So, you will mostly likely to see other hunters flying around trying to get her. That's not the most challenging part, but this one is, she flies high up in the air and you have to actually tag and bring her down safely on any platform before you can tame her.

Some guides that you might have read suggested to use the tallest tree right beside the Statue of Malorne. As you can see in the screenshot below, there was another hunter waiting for her on top of the tree. I found this is not that effective, since you might not know where exactly the Spirit Owl is going to spawn and if you waited long enough another hunter might use this chance to get her before you can.

The best trick to tame her is fly up on your mount at any location preferably back facing the water, wait for her to spawn and when she does, firstly, make sure that you are in range of her by making sure that your Arcane Shot on your hot bar does not show red (means out of range). Next, when you know you're in range, dismount hit her with an arcane shot and before you land on the ground hit Disengage, so you won't take fall damage. Putting your back against the water ensures that you will land in the water reducing the risk of dying even more.

For those of you, who wanted to practice this, I recommend doing it on an NPC mob named Flame Terror, they are located at the right side of where Ban'thalos will spawn nearby the waterfall. I've added a screenshot below, as you can see if you fly there, you can do a couple of practice run here and if you fall there is water underneath so there is less to worry.

Target the mob, dismount and then shoot with an Arcane Shot, once you're about to hit the water, press disengage. You have to time this correctly and if you failed you can keep trying. Hope this will give a little bit of help for those of you who are searching for her.

After exactly 3 hours and 10 minutes of writing this post, Ban'thalos appeared on my NPC scan, the hunter was still waiting atop of the tree. I flew towards her, dismounted and fired a few rounds of Arcane Shots and Disengage before i hit the ground. I was so excited and hit the tame button, but before the tame was completed, guess what, an alliance hunter shot me and managed to kill me. Not giving up on myself, I quickly spirit walk back to my corpse which is not that far from there. I respawned and quickly flew up and realize Ban'thalos was reaching the other hunter that was camping atop of the tree. I quickly rushed near Ban'thalos, dismounted and fired a few arcane shots once again before Disengaging to the ground again. The spirit beast cast Moonfire and I was quite low on health, i pop Deterrence and Exhilaration to regain my health. The hunter was still atop of the tree watching as I was taming her. This time, there were no alliance to interfere. I finally got her and decided to name her Nyra!
